  • WHAT ARE THE LIBRARY OPENING HOURS?
Opening hours of the reading rooms and lending departments are different. For information, visit here.
  • WHERE COULD I FIND RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE LIBRARY?

  • WHO CAN USE LIBRARY SERVICES AND FACILITIES?
University staff and students can use all Library services and facilities: lending, reading rooms, computers and internet access, licensed databases, printing, copying, etc.
Persons who are not members of VMU community have the right to read books and other documents only in reading rooms, also they can use paid services (copying, printing, etc.); user registration via presenting valid identification to librarian is necessary.
  • WHAT TO DO IF I LOST STUDENT (STAFF) CARD?
If Staff or Student Card has been lost or stolen, please notify Library’s Central Lending Department staff by phone (8-37 327861) immediately to avoid others using your card.
  • WHERE CAN I COPY AND PRINT? HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

  • WHERE AND WHEN CAN I USE LIBRARY'S COMPUTERS?
Computers in the Library’s reading rooms should be used for search and recording information of study and research, as well as for e-mail. Only members of University community have a right to use computers in Library reading rooms, therefore Logon is required with VMU FirstClass user’s password. There is a possibility for users to connect personal laptops to wireless network in reading rooms.
Computers in lending departments can be used only for search and ordering documents in Library General Catalog.
  • WHERE CAN I FIND INFORMATION ABOUT THE DOCUMENTS STORED IN THE LIBRARY?
Library General Catalog contains information about the documents stored in the Library.
  • WHERE SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATIONS OF VMU STAFF CAN BE FOUND? HOW TO REGISTER THEM?

  • HOW TO FIND AND ORDER NECESSARY PUBLICATION?
Use Library General Catalog to find publication stored in the University library.

  • HOW TO KNOW THE NUMBER OF EXEMPLARS OF PUBLICATION STORED IN THE LIBRARY?
When search in Library General Catalog is accomplished, look at the column Lib/Items in the result list.
Example:  - it means that there are in total 4 exemplars of book in Central Lending Department, and one of them is already taken.
  • WHERE CAN I USE LIBRARY CATALOG?
Access to Library General Catalog is possible from all Library’s computers or other computers with internet connection.
  • WHERE SHOULD I COLLECT ORDERED BOOKS?
Books, ordered using Library General Catalog, should be collected in 3 days in the sublibrary from which they were ordered.
There are 3 lending departments in VMU Library: Central Lending Department (K. Donelaičio str. 52 – 103), Informatics and Natural Sciences Lending Department (Vileikos str. 8 – 602), Theological Library Lending Department (Papilio str. 5).
  • HOW TO FIND OUT IF MY ORDER HAS BEEN PERFORMED?
You will receive notification about ordered documents by e-mail. Information about ordering process can be also found in Library General Catalog: click Enter your username and password (to register to the system), then enter your User ID and Password and click Log on. In order to see all personal information as well as loans, hold requests, etc., click  View information on your library account  on top of the window.
  • HOW TO CHECK WHEN  BOOKS SHOULD BE RETURNED TO THE LIBRARY?
The return date is indicated on the leaflet affixed to the book. For this information you can also contact lending department by e-mail or phone; you can check it in Library General Catalog: click Enter your username and password (to register to the system), then enter your User ID and Password. When logged, click View information on your library account  on top of the window, then - Loans.
  • HOW CAN I EXTEND BOOK LOAN PERIOD? 
In case the term period is not over yet and the book has not been reserved by other reader, it is possible to extend the term of use. You may do this by visiting lending department, by e-mail or phone.  Also you can do it yourself: connect to Library General Catalog,  click Enter your username and password (to register to the system), then enter your User ID and Password. When logged, click View information on your library account  on top of the window, then - Loans. Click the number of book you would like to renew, then -Renew.
  • CAN OTHER PEOPLE RETURN THE BOOK I HAVE BORROWED? 
Yes, they can. 
  • CAN I BORROW BOOKS FROM OTHER LIBRARIES?
Publications not owned by the Vytautas Magnus University or unavailable electronically can be obtained through Interlibrary Loan (ILL), i.e. it is possible to order them from other Lithuanian or foreign libraries. 
In order to get appropriate publication, it is necessary to have its precise and complete bibliographic information. The copies of the articles are given to the reader for the personal usage. This service is paid and possible only in Central Lending Department. 
  • WHERE CAN I FIND MASTER  WORKS?
Bibliographic records of master works of 1993-2007 period are in Catalog of VMU Master Works. Master works from all fields of science that are stored in the library are available in the V. Biržiška reading room. Photocopying is forbidden.
VMU master works written after 2008 can be found in The Information System of Electronic Documents of the Final Papers of Lithuanian Master‘s Students, Doctoral Dissertations and their Summaries (Lithuanian Electronic Theses and Dissertations, ETD).
  • HOW COULD I HAVE A LOOK AT THE PUBLICATIONS FROM PERSONAL COLLECTIONS?
Publications from personal collections (Vytautas Kavolis, Aleksandras Štromas, Bronius Kviklys, etc.) are stored and are available for readers only in Aleksandras Štromas political sciences reading room (S. Daukanto str. 25). Search for publications via internet is possible in Library General Catalog.
  • HOW CAN I FIND COMPACT DISCS USING LIBRARY CATALOG?
In order to view collection of compact discs connect to Library General Catalog, write "elektroninis išteklius" in the search field. If you are looking for music or films, please write “garso įrašas. 
  • WHERE CAN I FIND INFORMATION ABOUT PERIODICALS STORED IN THE LIBRARY?  DO THEY HAVE ONLINE ACCESS? 
Information about periodicals stored in the Library can be found in VMU Serials Catalog, and on Library website as well here. If online version of print periodical is available, you will find this indicated in the record. Also you can search for electronic journals in trial and licensed databases. Print periodicals are available in reading rooms only and can’t be borrowed. 
  • HOW CAN  I ORDER THE RESEARCH  MATERIAL? 
University staff can participate in acquisition of new publications by making requests to Acquisitions Department of VMU Library (K. Donelaičio str. 52 – 105). To order an appropriate material, it is necessary to indicate precise and complete bibliographic information about the publication.

  • WHAT IT IS THE TRIAL DATABASE? 
Library offers trials of new databases to give students and staff the opportunity to examine their suitability. Information about trial databases can be found at: here.
  • WHO CAN ADVISE ME ABOUT SEARCH IN LIBRARY CATALOG AND DATABASES?
The library staff will be happy to assist you. You should inquire or contact library staff for assistance by e-mail or phone; Information Services Department staff will demonstrate effective searches in the databases and provide you with Log in information.
